Merab who’s currently sitting at number 3 in the ufc BW rankings (behind Sean O’Malley#1 Petr Yan#2)
Merab has a fight March 11 against Petr Yan in a 5 round main event.
Merab’s in absolutely no rush to fight for the title, his close friend Aljamain Sterling is currently the BW champ and Merab has been open about how he won’t fight Aljamain.
What’s this mean for Merab? Who’s currently on a 8 fight win streak, he just fought Jose Aldo, a previous champ, now fighting Petr Yan(March 11th) another previous champion.
We’ll he’ll have to go back to the drawing board if he can’t get past Petr, but let’s say he dose, then what? There’s not much else besides a title shot at 135, he can’t go after the 125 belt he’s too lean to drop down and his frame may be too small for a jump to 145, that’s not saying he won’t have success at 145 but, you’ll need all the tools if he wanted to step up to 145 and be a champion.
If Merab what’s to stay relevant in the UFC he either needs to just say F@$K it and fight his friend Aljamain, or take a little lay off and properly get yourself down to 125, or work your way up to 145, don’t gate-keep and have Aljamain protected.
